NFL Roundup: Broncos Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Battle
During a defensive struggle this weekend, the Broncos clinched a close victory over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late go-ahead field goal to seal the ugly win.
Dominant Display Wins Game
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after giving up a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 total net yards throughout the contest.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's short kick with approximately five minutes remaining.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Attack
In spite of their dismal offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to drive for a potential victory. But Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn opted to go for it rather than calling on specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled throughout, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets finished with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," Glenn stated following the contest.
